Edanz minimizes expenses by using writers contracted to us, many of whom have a full-time workload for the Edanz Group but do not work in our offices. The majority of the Edanz writers are contracted to Edanz according to the work they do. They work from their own locations around the world and are paid for just the work they complete. Thus the overheads for Edanz Writing are much less than for traditional service companies. This creates savings we pass on to our clients in the form of our low fees.
There are three main factors which will affect the cost of our service:
The length of the final manuscript - e.g. will it be 1000 or 3000 words
The starting point we work from; e.g. from raw data or from a draft manuscript
Your publication goals
While Edanz provides the same quality of service regardless of the level of the journal you are submitting to, your publication goals can affect the time spent on your manuscript. Publication goals might include publication in a high impact factor journal, a chapter of a book, a conference poster, medical education slide-kits, or any other method of communicating your scientific research. Your publication goals will affect the type of service you require and thus affect the price. For example, submitting to a top-tier journal such as Nature, Science, or Lancet, can require more work to ensure the manuscript meets these journal's often extensive style and formatting requirements than if you submit to a lower impact factor journal with lesser guidelines.
All services are charged at 800 RMB (12,000 Jpn yen) per hour. Hour estimates are based on a 3,000 word manuscript. The below are example options only; we will customize a service package according to your needs. For example, if you have already chosen a journal then that part of the service will be deducted from our final quotation. Please send your requirements and manuscript to us for a detailed service proposal.
Your priority as a researcher or company is to focus on research and innovation. Outsourcing manuscript writing to us is an efficient and cost-effective alternative to writing your own manuscripts, allowing you to focus on what you do best. Further, the earlier our scientists are involved in the process, the more assistance we can provide in identifying issues which will be of key importance during peer review.
Two of our scientists in your field will identify scientific issues that might prevent your manuscript from being accepted for publication, and will work with you to resolve those issues. This service will speed up the submission process and increase the chances of publication in a high impact factor journal.
The writing and editing team will ensure not only that your language is clear, concise and has a native-English style, but also that the style and formatting of the manuscript adhere strictly to the journal style and Guide to Authors. This step will increase chances of acceptance for publication. As part of this service, one of our quality control copy editors will review the manuscript for typos, language issues and expression.
Drawing figures is an often overlooked but important aspect of manuscript preparation. Many authors do not have the correct software, time, or expertise to create professional figures. We use professional design software to create professional figures that are formatted according to journal requirements, saving you time and effort and increases chances of making it through the peer review process.
Publishing in a high impact factor journal is important for your career and helps you secure more funding for your research. We use our knowledge to generate a short-list of journals (usually 3 to 5) that we believe will be most appropriate and most likely to consider your work. We also give an assessment of the benefits and risks of submitting to each journal to enable you to make the most appropriate decision of your target journal. Edanz Writing can recommend a journal to meet your publication needs. We consider the following when identifying potential target journals:
Recent publication history
Scope of your study
Type of study (e.g., clinical study, case study, laboratory study)
Type of manuscript (e.g., short communication, full article, review article, letter to the editor)
Do you need to publish in a journal with an Impact Factor/indexed in Medline/Embase, etc.?
This is an important step in journal submission, writing a good cover lever significantly increases chances for publication. Manuscripts can be rejected or accepted based just on the quality and clarity of the cover letter. Details such as addressing the letter to the correct journal editor can make a difference in rejection or acceptance.
If required, we can work with the author to handle the submission process and monitoring of the manuscript throughout the entire peer review and publication process.

It is critical to respond to peer review comments in a professional manner and to properly address or rebut the peer review comments. We work with you to develop the response letter and to ensure that your manuscript properly addresses the comments. In addition, based on the peer review comments, we can identify areas in the manuscript that might benefit from review by our scientists in your field.

The American Chemical Society Publications also recommend the Edanz service to their authors, with Edanz Editing and Liwen Bianji the only recommended services localized for Japanese and Chinese authors, respectively.
While using our services greatly increases your changes of acceptance for publication, we cannot give a guarantee that your manuscript will be published in your target journal. The ultimate criterion for publication will always be the quality of the science in your manuscript. However, if your manuscript is rejected by your first journal choice then we can work with you to select a different journal to submit to after making any necessary modifications to the manuscript.
After reviewing our Service Examples and Estimates page then the next step is to send your manuscript to info@edanzwriting.com to receive a detailed service proposal which will include a price quotation and estimated timeline, and when necessary, our initial scientific review comments and service recommendations.
We recommend the following steps to best meet your objectives and ensure a smooth work-flow:
Decide on the data that you wish to be included - generate the tables and figures that you think should be included in the final manuscript.
Generate a two to three page summary of the study (which can be in bullet point format), and should include a brief rationale of the study, key citations (including PDF copies of these if possible), key messages/results to be discussed and a final conclusion.
Supply a draft or outline of the methodology section. Explain methods and techniques used in as much detail as possible, list materials and equipment used and manufacturers. Especially, supply the references from which authors obtained any non-standard methods.
If you are rewriting from a draft manuscript, or one that is to be reworked for submission to a different journal, then send us the draft and also the peer review comments.
For the sake of efficiency, and to ensure proper understanding of your scientific meaning, we encourage you to communicate with us in English whenever possible. However, we are fully localized in China and Japan and we have staff able to communicate with you in Chinese or Japanese, and several other languages. Our local staff will facilitate your communications with our writers and editors as well as oversee translations of any data and text that might be required.
To receive a quotation for one of our services, send your data or manuscript, along with your target journal or peer review letter, to info@edanzwriting.com and we will provide a detailed service proposal including a price quotation and estimated timeline.
We try to reply to requests for a service proposal within one working day; please contact us by phone if you have sent your manuscript for quotation but not had a reply within one working day.
If you have a project that you would like to discuss with us but are not able to send data or a manuscript, please send us an email outlining the project and the type of work you would like us to do. We will then contact you to go over our involvement and pricing structure.

Edanz Writing has scientific and medical writing opportunities for native English-speaking scientists, clinicians and academics with excellent writing skills. Within our expanding team, there are roles for writers, support scientists and academic reviewers. Reviewers should be well established researchers in their field and have a strong track record of journal publications. Writers and support scientists should also be published authors, with impeccable writing skills and in-depth subject knowledge. Most of our editors have PhDs, but we are also interested in applications from experienced scientific and medical writers with other degrees or those with a background in academic publishing. If you are an established academic interested in reviewing work or feel you have what it takes to be a scientific and medical writer, we would like to hear from you. Please send us an e-mail describing your background and present situation with an up-to-date CV.
The amount of time required to prepare a manuscript for submission will be different for each manuscript. It will depend on its current condition and the target journal. View the Service Examples and Estimates page to see estimates for different service packages. In our service quotation, we will provide you with an estimated timeline and cost. To receive a service quotation please email your manuscript to info@edanzwriting.com; be sure to tell us which services you require, along with the target journal if you have chosen one. If you have a project that you would like to discuss with us but are not able to send data or a manuscript, please send us an email outlining the project and the type of work you would like us to do. We will then contact you to go over our involvement and pricing structure.
